Plastic products have several common names:
Basic aliases: Also commonly called "plastic products," and in the industrial field, they are also referred to as "resin." They are polymer compounds made through addition polymerization or condensation polymerization.
Environmentally related names: Waste plastic products that are difficult to degrade naturally, often with a white appearance, are widely referred to as "white pollution."
Differentiating by Appearance and Physical Properties
Observe transparency, gloss, and feel: PE is translucent and waxy; PP produces a crisp sound when tapped; PS is transparent like glass and brittle, easily broken.
Utilize density differences: PE and PP have a density less than water and will float in water; PVC and PET have a density greater than water and will sink.
Differentiating by Burning Characteristics
Burn a small piece in a well-ventilated area and observe the flame and odor: PE burns with a paraffin-like smell and melts and drips; PVC extinguishes immediately upon removal from the flame and releases a pungent hydrogen chloride odor.
