What methods can prevent precision metal parts from rusting?

Based on the previously mentioned background regarding the storage and humidity control of precision metal parts, comprehensive rust protection can be achieved through three core methods: environmental management, surface protection, and material optimization.

Source-level Environmental Humidity Control for Rust Prevention: Maintain a stable relative humidity of the storage environment at 30%-40% RH, using dehumidifiers and desiccants to reduce moisture content. Simultaneously, isolate corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and salts, cutting off the necessary conditions for oxidation reactions at the source.

Surface Layer Protection for Rust Prevention:

Rust-preventive oil treatment: Select appropriate oils according to the rust prevention cycle. Form a dense protective film on the surface through dipping, brushing, or spraying. Some water-displacement oils can directly remove residual moisture from the workpiece surface, providing rust protection for up to one year or more.

Functional coatings: Water-based environmentally friendly rust-preventive paints, composite ceramic anti-corrosion coatings, or electroplating with zinc, nickel, chromium, etc., can be used for protection. Some passivation processes can also generate a stable passivation film on the metal surface, suitable for workpieces with different precision requirements.

Auxiliary Long-Term Rust Prevention: Vacuum nitrogen-filled storage and VCI vapor phase rust-preventing paper wrapping can be used to completely isolate oxygen and moisture; for workpieces stored for a long time, regular inspections and recoating of protective layers should be carried out, and any slight rust should be polished in time to prevent the spread of rust.
